An 'Extraordinary' Day

As the Sun comes up, early in the morn…
Grudgingly I wake up, shutting the alarm’s horn.

Yet another day, with aims too high…
“So much’s there to do”, I think with a sigh!

I have to work, I want to play…
I need some ‘me-time’, n some more at fray.

This day’s gonna be different; I can sense that feeling…
This mere thought pumps in me, a rush of adrenaline!

Soon enough though, all that energy starts to disappear…
I start feeling sleepy, while the end is nowhere near.

I haven’t done a thing, but I agree for my mind’s sake…
That I’ve worked enough, and I do deserve a break!

The break actually does wonders; it turns my philosophy over…
I’m all drowning in guilt, feels I can’t sink any lower.

And now I’m charged up again, all set to fire…
A moment later though, a break is all I desire!

This keeps on going throughout the day….
Working only if there’s a deadline at bay.

And that’s how another different day goes into the drain…
No matter what I feel, its all ultimately the same!

But Wait! That’s just the failure in me speaking…
‘coz I know I’m meant for a much higher seeking.
No matter what (or what not!) happened today…
Tomorrow is definitely gonna be a very, very different day!!

Ye hai Meri Kahaani

A jest of my story of the first 3 years in VNIT (had written this sometime in my final year!).

Hopefully every college student will connect to it at some point somewhere.
Pardon me for the length but i could have gone on and on describing these "awesomest" days of my life :)
Dedicated to all my friends who've always been there for me...

College days, college days
why are they disappearing into haze.

Never before had I wished I fail
That's the dilemma: I don't want to, yet I have to sail.
Never before had the time moved soo fast
You think a moment and its already disappeared into the past.

It seems as if it was just yesterday when we first entered this place
All young and enthused, some still in there pre-mature days.

All new faces everywhere,
all new places eveywhere.

Somewhere in there was a kid, alien to them all
A boy who had seen nothing but his home's fall.
He never knew where to go,
what to do, whom to know.

He cried his first night 'coz he knew no one out there
he wished he ran back home and never return here.
Slowly and gradually, as the days passed
he made new friends, he got new tasks.

Soon he realized what truly college life meant
then and after, each moment there was among the best he ever spent.
Be it the first time he rocked the stage,
or the time when he was slapped in face!

He would study (more often sleep) in library through the day
and then chat with friends till no one had anything more to say.
Suddenly out of nowhere, the end-sems came
he needed more time, in God's name!

He promised he'd do better the coming years
no matter whatsoever came, he said with a smear.

With the inception of the second year,
he was a bit different, I swear.
He studied more, he enjoyed more
He took part in everything from the core.

And just when everything was at its peak,
the year ended with no time left to seek.

Thinking of the second year
he never understood what he had done here.
But then he realized he'd found the most valuable thing on earth
living without friends now just didn't seem to have any worth.

When asked what he did in college, he had no clue
though he realised he was already more than half way through.

Its so simple, yet it tickles our brain
What happens here, that these days keep revisiting our memory's lane.
Sometimes even a small good thing makes our day
college is full of such "small good things", happiness never far away.

Say them boon or say them bane
Let them pass by, and then you'd realise the pain.
Never once would you regret a thing done here
these are the moments you'd like everyone to share.

When the third year came,
he had in mind,a much bigger aim.
He lead the department, he did his studies
he found true friends, he found great buddies.

Throughout the year, he worked quite hard
whatsoever "happened", he never gave a regard.
With so many things on his mind to do,
he didn't realise "as always", where the time flew!

With all this now left far behind
here I am now, praying to get blessed with a time rewind.
Whats there in the future, we never know
all I wish is that it always remains so...

Note: I thought of writing further but that would have belittled the meaning of the last line.

Glory...

Let me tell you a story,
Of a boy, oozing with confidence, pursuing paths of glory.

Soon to enter the sea, he was waiting ashore...
Fearless and indifferent he stood; undaunted by the monster's roar.

Imminent was the inception of his sojourn,
The day was far from over; 'twas barely dawn.

He knew the path ain't easy, but he was prepared.
Let come the fiercest of hardships; he wasn't one who cared.

As he pushed his first step in, wind slapped across his face...
He wavered a bit, but he won't quit this race.

Filled with determination, he went into the depth.
Lacking weapons, lacking support, he kept moving, completely bereft.

With intelligence and perseverance, he fought the mounting waves.
The beasts that had already dug, thousands of innocent graves.

It wasn't an easy battle; not a piece of cake.
At times he was defeated too, losing everything that was at stake.

But he won't give up so easily; he'll continue to fight.
No matter what it takes, he won't give away his pride.

The day will come when he'll finally roar.
Soon enough he'll reach his destiny, he'll reach another shore.

Bidding adieu...

“I don’t have a good feeling about this”, Mike said as he and Rob walked into the ring for the one last time. “Relax!” he replied. “It’s not like you're going in for the first time… you should be used to it by now!”
But then it was never about the big-stage jitters. The very fact that he won’t be doing this again beat the hell out of him. Yet, that simple gesture allowed Mike to get in there a bit more assured… a bit more confident.
Rob, though - not the expressive types - never told how terrified he too was at the aspect of their very last match.

how difficult it is, to just leave something that you have done all along... the thing, without which you do not know what exactly will you be doing...

Warrior

Long ago,
there was a warrior.
brave, courageous
you couldn’t find a man mightier.
Well,
it hadn’t been like this always.
Initially,
even at the slightest fright, he’d faze!

Slowly and gradually though,
he started to fight.
Was he good at it?
Oh there wasn’t a better sight!
As time progressed,
his skills and popularity grew.
Soon enough,
he was among the very best few.

At his peak,
he could outweigh thousands alone.
No one would dare come in his way,
when he was in that zone!
But then things took a turn;
he had a fall.
Everyone wrote him off,
said he had lost it all.

He wouldn’t give up so easily though;
he would survive.
He would muster everything in him,
he would completely revive.
Fighter that he was,
he didn’t know how to quit.
He got back into the race,
better equipped, more fit.

He redeemed his pride,
he fought for his honour.
Without that spirit though,
he would have been a goner.
With the same pride and honour then,
he decided to rest his sword.
People would praise him now,
would compare him even to the almighty Lord!

And so he walked into the sunset,
Sun forming a halo over his head.
People talked of the times he won,
he thought of the times he bled.

Some sleepless nights,
some wrongs n rights..
Some awkward times,
some broken rhymes!

At times, I wonder what could have happened...
What if that one thing would have been different...
How much we'll think about it I wonder...
I guess the best thing is to simply surrender!
Lets just accept what is there,
who knows, what the future might bear!

Its Complicated

"A (not-so-)short story somewhere on the lines of a typical Bollywood drama!"

Her Story
“Meet our daughter Chhaya!” her parents had just introduced her to Harsh and his parents. Harsh Razdaan was a Doctor and had just completed his post-graduation in Ophthalmology. The moment he’d completed his degree, he had been bombarded with calls for interview from several hospitals in the city. He was a smart kid and quite comfortably secured a reputable and well-paid job in the city’s leading hospital.

Soon after Harsh started practising, his parents had started looking for a suitable girl for him to settle down, which was precisely the reason that had brought them down to the Kapoors’ place. The Kapoors were friends of friends, and a renowned family in the city. Their daughter, Chhaya had completed her engineering a year ago and was now working for an MNC in the city itself. The Razdaans had found out that they were looking for a groom for Chhaya. They approached and talked to them about their son, and the Kapoors were more than happy to invite them to their place, so that the two families, especially, their children, could get to know each other.

The meeting had gone down well. Once the Kapoors had left, Chhaya’s parents came to her to ask her opinion. They had been asked for a quick response as the Kapoors had really liked Chhaya“She is very smart, and very homely and respectful”, they had said while leaving.

Chhaya, too, should have liked Harsh. He was intelligent for sure, he was funny and witty too, and was indeed a gentleman. But she was confused. She was confused over a possibilityAashay Tripathi, her next door neighbour. Aashay had been alongside her right from childhood. When they were kids, they would play together, do their homework together, but most of that time, they would be found fighting over something or the other. Every time though, they would always manage to make it up in the end!

As they grew up, they stopped playing but still fought over things; in a more sophisticated way thoughchatting. They would talk (fight) over things like a piece of chocolate, or politics, or philosophy, or future, or anything for that matter. They would never agree on any topic but would somehow always settle these arguments, only to start up new ones! They had agreed to always disagree with each other. Even though they spent so much time together, they never were anything more than just friends. There were times when Chhaya wished that their relationship was more than that, but he had never asked her out.

Today again, she faced the same dilemma. She didn’t know if anything existed between them. What she knew was that, if at all anything existed, she could latch on to that tiny little something for the rest of her life. She couldn’t sleep that night. She had a decision to make. If only Aashay too liked her. Things would have been so much easier for her right now. Her family wouldn’t have agreed, but she knew she would have convinced them.

The next morning, she told her parents that she was ready to marry Harsh. Both the families were extremely happy. Chhaya wasn’t sure if this was the right thing to do but she couldn’t have stuck onto a possibility. She would have waited for Aashay had he loved her. They being together would have been the best thing that could have happened to her, but sadly, it wasn’t meant to be.

His Story-I
Aashay Tripathi was the only child of his parents. They lived next door to the Kapoors and Aashay would spend more time there than at his own house. Throughout the day, he would keep playing and fighting with Chhaya, the daughter of the Kapoor family. He liked being around her.

As they grew up, he started liking her even more. He would look for reasons to meet her, to talk to her. Whenever they would talk, he knew that everything that she said was what he too believed in, but he’d still argue just so that they would keep on talking. He was so much into her that he even went to the same college as her even though he could as easily have gotten into a better college given his better academic records.

They were never anything more than friends, though. He wanted their relationship to be more than that, but Chhaya considered them just friends, or so he thought. Their relationship was still special, and he couldn’t risk ruining it. He didn’t know if Chhaya thought of him this way, but she had never given any indication. Had she even thought of it, he would have proposed to her that very instant.

He was doing his Masters’ when he heard about Chhaya’s marriage. His heart sank a little, but he was happy for her. He took solace in the fact that at least he did the right thing and didn’t ruin their friendship! They being together would have been the best thing that could have happened to him, but sadly, it wasn’t meant to be.

His Story-II
Mahesh Razdaan was one of the reputed businessmen in the city, who had built his name from scratch. He had two sonsRahul and Harsh. The elder son, Rahul, had succeeded him in his business, and was now extending it even outside the city. He wanted his younger son to join his company too, but Harsh never showed any interest in the family business. He wanted to become a Doctor. Mahesh supported him anyway, and he did ultimately become a Doctor.

During his post-graduation, he met Priya. She was a sweet little angel who completely turned his life around. As the time went past, he fell madly in love with her. They had become virtually inseparable with time. They would study together, eat together, and do almost everything together throughout the day. Within a year, he had grown so much fond of her that he could not imagine being with anyone else now.

Soon they completed their studies and started working. He hadn’t known but his mom-dad had started looking for brides for him. When they told him that they were looking at some Chhaya Kapoor for him, he was shocked; but to be fair, he too hadn’t told them about Priya yet. He explained them that he loved Priya and wanted to marry her and not anyone else, but his parents didn’t agree. The situation looked like getting out of control when he finally gave in. They went to see her later and he agreed to marry her. He had different plans in mind though. Priya was waiting for him, after all. He hadn’t disobeyed his parents ever before, but desperate times demanded desperate measures.

"In life we so frequently assume things or take them for granted. We fail to act in order to avoid risks. In order to protect the beauty that we see today, we jeopardize the very existence of the much more magnified form of that beauty that could have evolved from this tomorrow. Both Chhaya and Aashay would have understood this some day. 'If only I had taken that risk', they would regret later. But this does not give us the authority to play with others' life. We cannot commit to one thing just to avoid a confrontation for the other. Harsh, too, would have realized it sooner or later."
